The global maritime transport sector faces an urgent challenge to reduce its carbon footprint and align with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) strategy for
decarbonization, which calls for a minimum 40% reduction in CO₂ intensity by 2030 (based on 2008 levels) and for zero or near-zero emission fuels to represent at least 5–10% of total energy use by the same year. Within this scenario, the panel will present and discuss how low-carbon ethanol produced in Brazil—supported by an integrated and well-established chain of origination, logistics, and commercialization—offers an immediate, scalable, and sustainable solution to meet the global maritime sector’s decarbonization goals under the International Maritime Organization (IMO) framework.
