SUMMARY:UNICA at COP30 – “ILUC standards as safeguards to the sustainable production of biofuels”
DESCRIPTION:Indirect Land Use Change (ILUC) is one of the most debated and complex sustainability criteria in the global regulation of biofuels. It seeks to account for emissions that may occur indirectly when agricultural land previously used for food or other purposes is converted to biofuel feedstock production\, potentially leading to deforestation or displacement effects.  \nAlthough the objective of ILUC assessment is to ensure that biofuels do not contribute to unintended environmental impacts\, the lack of methodological consistency among different regulatory frameworks often leads to distorted results and can penalize production routes that are\, in fact\, sustainable.  \nThis panel will discuss the importance of harmonizing ILUC methodologies\, promoting fair treatment for sustainable biofuels\, and establishing safeguards that support both environmental integrity and equitable market access.  \nSpeakers: \n\nDaniel Lopes ( FS)\nRicardo Dupont (ANAC)\nDanilo Garofalo ( Agroicone)\n\nVenue: COP30 – Blue Zone – Brazilian Sustainable Transportation Pavilion (PV-B26) \n
